… built in 1136 and considered a fine example
of medieval church architecture …
… it is one of many along the Border …
… and was considered a highly desirable final resting place
for the rich and powerful …
… the heart of Robert the Bruce (died 1329) was buried here
although his body is in Dunfermline Abbey …
… little of the original church of the abbey remains …
… as it was completely rebuilt in 1385 following an attack …
