Pass of Killiecrankie

Killiecrankie5919

… the Pass of Killiecrankie is a wooded glen
running alongside the River Garry in Perthshire ….

Killiecrankie5879

… close to the site of a bloody Jacobite battle in 1689 …

Killiecrankie5912

… this spot is now known as “Soldier’s Leap” …

Killiecrankie5906

… and remembered for the amazing leap
across an 18ft (5.5m) wide gorge
made by redcoat Donald McBane escaping clansmen …
one of the few lucky enough to survive the day

Killiecrankie5880

… these youth weren’t imitating that leap …

Killiecrankie5882

… simply jumping into the river below …

Killiecrankie5883

… crazy …

Killiecrankie5881

… and dangerous …

Killiecrankie5888

… given the evil rocks surrounding the spot …
not to mention the ghosts that lurk
