Largo House Orchard

In Upper Largo …

… in front of Largo Law …

… at the back of Largo House …
(yes, there’s a derelict mansion hidden within those trees)

… and beside the old tower which formed part of the original building on this site …

… well there would have been four towers but only one remains …

… which has a plaque with no date saying
“Restored by the East Neuk Preservation Society” …
(which bizarrely makes me want to sing the song from The Italian Job)

… even the flying fish on the top was re-made …

… but it must have been some time ago …

… as the tower is crumbling and unsafe like the rest of Largo House …

I came across the traces of Largo House orchard

… I entered through a hole in the wall like walking into a secret garden …

… to see the a wonderful carpet of snowdrops …

… but the orchards are in a similar state to the house and tower …

… and despite a brave attempt to cut back the brambles and weeds
and seriously prune the trees in the hope they will fruit again …

…  it may well be too late …

… the orchard may end up like poor old Bogie, a pet dog, who is buried here …

… so as the sun set I wandered back along the edge of what once was a grand estate
wondering how the old and the new could co-exist
and how to preserve the history of such a place
