Uncle Johnny

… wasn’t really my uncle …

… he was 2nd Lt Jan Radomski of the 2nd Parachute Battalion
of the First Independent Polish Parachute Brigade …

… he jumped at the Battle of Arnhem on 21st September 1944 …

… and lived … but never told the tale …

… he was my father’s friend and best man at my parent’s wedding …

… he was godfather to my brother …

… who named his tortoise Johnny after him
(apparently he wasn’t nearly as flattered as he should have been) …

… and now he’s turned up in someone else’s photo album …
… Uncle Johnny is on the right …

… this was taken at Ringway (Manchester airport)
where the brigade completed their training and did practice jumps ..

… how amazing is that!
