Johnny Tortoise

As the weather cools down and the wintry nights draw in,
I’ve been thinking about hibernating which in turn made me think of Johnny.

Johnny was my brother’s tortoise when we were kids
and lived with my mother until she died a couple of years ago.

He now lives with a friend and his family in Wiltshire
– a big change after 50 years in London
but Johnny loves the fresh air and the young company.

He always enjoyed being around people and eating strawberries and cherries.

So now I’m wondering where he’ll sleep this winter and wish him a long goodnight.
Now where shall I hibernate?
